This is one of the most popular local cycle routes from Grantham. The route has a bit of everything and it totally suitable for Families and Individuals who want a great ride out. A considerable amount of this route is traffic free, a lot of this being at the Grantham end of the ride.
The whole of route 15 runs from Belton, near East Midlands Airport to Grantham. In total it runs for 31.3 miles, however it can be dissected into 3 distinct chunks, Belton to Diseworth, Bingham to Bottesford and Muston to Grantham. However, the route is pretty fragmented, and whilst Sustrans claim that the route connects with Sustrans 1 and Sustrans 6, there is a lot of work still to do to connect it all up.
Despite this, the section between Grantham and Muston is a great little family ride. It runs alongside the Grantham Canal, so is pretty flat, hard surfaced and traffic free. There is a tea room in Muston, plus a Pub on the outside of the village next to the A52. There is also a pub literally next to the canal, this is highly recommended as a great place to stop for some refreshment and a gastro pub in the village of Woolsthorpe, but you may feel a little under-dressed if you are wearing Lycra!
Should you want to add something a little more interesting to this ride, you can add some of the rides around Belvoir Vale to this, see some of our other posts, such as The Old Railway Line and Belvoir Tops.

The Grantham Part
In the ideal world you would ride out of Grantham along Harlaxton Road, towards the Farriers Arms next to the A1. However, be really careful riding around here as the roads can get quite busy, if you have children, please take extra care.
Once under the A1, before the roundabout there is a cut through on the right hand side which takes you down to the Grantham Canal. Follow this path until you reach the Canal and head West, or turn left. Simply follow this Canal Path for as long as you want to, you will eventually reach the famous Dirty Duck. This is a great place to stop for a well deserved drink before turning round and heading back.
The Map below, taken from the Sustrans Website shows you an indication of the route. A GPS Route and map can be found here
